Booley hut in Bunnamohaun

This is one of six huts (MA084-0021---- to MA084-0026----), which occur in a cluster in an exposed site on commonage about halfway up the S flanks of Knockmore. The huts are situated at different levels on a very steep slope over a distance of c. 60m on either side of a small stream. They were most likely associated with booleying activities. This hut lies close to S bank of the stream, 9.6m ENE of MA084-022----. Another hut (MA084-024----) lies 25m downslope to ESE. The remains consist of a small hut foundation, roughly polygonal in plan (3.6m E–W, 3.2m N–S). It is delimited by a grassy bank (Wth 1m) of varying height (0.2–0.3m). A number of stones and one large boulder protrude from the bank in the western sector. A gap (Wth 1.1m) in the bank at ENE may mark the original entrance: a rivulet flowed through it at time of visit. The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island.
