Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Bunnafedia is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Bunnafedia, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a rise in gently undulating pasture and contains a raised circular area measuring 23 metres east-west and 22 metres north-south. An earth and stone bank 3.7 metres wide and 0.7 metre high encloses the site, with a partially blocked northeast opening and small sod-covered stone heaps inside.
Situated on a rise in gently undulating pasture. Raised circular area (dims. 23m E-W; 22m N-S) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth. 3.7m; H 0.7m) which ephemeral traces of an inner stone kerb. The bank was probably higher at N to compensate for a fall-off in ground level. No fosse. Partially blocked up break in bank at NE (present Wth. 0.7m) probably represents original location. There are a number of small sod-covered heaps of stones within the internal area. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011
