The precise location of a Chaff House in townland of Garristown has not been identified. A chaff house is a building used for storing husks from the grain crop (chaff) for animal feed after it has been threshed and winnowed in the barn. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Dublin recorded stated that in Garristown on the lands of Matthew Barnewall of Breemore, an Irish Papist, there stood; 'one chaffe house & two tenements valued by ye Jury at ten pounds' (Simington 1945, 18).
