Aubrey Beardsley, a prominent English illustrator and writer associated with the Aesthetic movement and the Decadent movement, was born in this house on 21 August 1872. His time at Brighton Grammar School (1884–1888) marks an early chapter in the life of a figure who significantly influenced art and design in the late 19th century.
