Mark Catesby (1682-1749) was a pioneering English naturalist and artist who significantly documented the flora and fauna of North America, publishing "The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands." His work provided one of the earliest comprehensive records of American natural history for European readers.
