Tumulus is a grass-covered barrow on a shallow shelf in County Roscommon, Ireland. It stands beside two raths, one ten metres west and the other a hundred metres southeast, as if a dead person, a living family and a forgotten visitor had all claimed the same ridge. The mound is small enough to walk around in a minute, yet it has watched the land long enough to make that minute feel like a lifetime.
