Burial in Baysrath (kells By.)

Burial

What is recorded here

Clear water flows through Baysrath, touching old stones and new life. The river does not erase memory; it carries it forward. What was hidden emerges changed, shaped by time and movement.
Excavated in 2006-7 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Road Improvement Scheme. Excavation licence no. 2517, AR053, Area C. A dumb-bell shaped cereal-drying kiln in the SW quadrant of a ringfort (KK031-082----) (c. 3.5m from the inner edge of the fosse) contained a skeleton in its northern terminus although there was no clear grave cut. It was in an extended supine position with the head at the W. The kiln also produced disarticulated human remains from another individual with a suggested age of 6-7 years. These individuals were not accorded formal burial and may have been considered outside contemporary society. (Channing 2009, 255-6, no. 1003; 2010a, 234, no. 881; 2010b) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 25 September 2013
