Grave Yard in Hospital, County Limerick, holds a broken medieval church of the Knights Hospitallers inside its northern quadrant while a later Catholic church watches from the northwest. People buried there after 1700 reused pieces of the older building as markers, forcing new grief to touch the hands and memory of the first residents. The yard stands beside Kenmare Castle and the River Mahore, large enough for generations but small enough that every stone still belongs to the same living town.
At the N end of the historic settlement of Hospital (LI032-147001-), with Kenmare Castle (LI032-147005-) and the River Mahore 110m to N. The medieval church ruins (LI032-147002-) of the Hospital of Any belonging to the Order of the Knights Hospitallers dedicated to St. John the Baptist stands in N quadrant of graveyard which has been extended to the W. 19th century St. John the Baptist's R.C. Church stands in NW quadrant of graveyard. Site of St. John's Well (LI032-147004-) 67m to N. The graveyard consists of a rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 54m N-S x 83m E-W) enclosed by post-1700 stone wall with entrance gate at NE. The N boundary of the present churchyard forms the townland boundary with Millfarm. The graveyard contains memorials dating from the post-1700 period with some architectural fragments of the church ruins reused as gravemarkers.
