Barrow

On a rise in level pastureland. This well-preserved circular ring-barrow (diam. 45.7m) comprises a low flat-topped mound (diam. 21.3m) encircled by a fosse and external bank. McCaffrey (1952, 26, 283, no. 9; 1955, 223) referred to a stone-lined ‘trough’ or ‘passage’ (L c. 3m; Wth/H c. 0.2m) in the NW quadrant, which led towards the centre of the barrow. It was built of drystone walling and roofed with lintels. A similar ‘passage’ lay to the N. No visible surface trace of these features was noted. Circular ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its well-preserved fosse and external bank provide insight into burial practices and earthwork construction techniques of the period.
