What is recorded here
Grave Yard is a children's burial ground in County Roscommon, Ireland, marked on maps since 1837. It occupies a small rectangular rise beside a narrow stream, bounded by four trees and scattered with tiny grave-markers. One round-topped granite slab stands upright among them, bearing only a plain cross. The small size of the markers and the separate location suggest the community set aside this quiet corner for its youngest dead.
Marked on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a small rise on the E bank of a small N-S stream. Rectangular grass-covered area (dims 11m NE-SW; 8m NW-SE) within four trees marking the corners strewn with small grave-markers. A round-topped granite slab (RO024-017002-) (dims 0.3m x 0.12m; H 0.3m) inscribed with a plain cross on one side is set upright amongst the grave-markers. It was conserved during 2009.
