What is recorded here
Thirty metres of hidden circle beside Rathaniska ringfort, waiting in Ballyhurst pasture while satellites and maps forgot it. Bruff cameras caught the shape in 1986, but later images surrendered the site to shadow, grass or distance. People may have lived, buried tools or simply walked past the place because visibility belongs to fortune as much as truth.
In pasture abutting the townland boundary with Ballyshoneen and Ballynaclogh. Enclosure (LI024-233----) 20m to SW. The ringfort (LI024-052----) known as ‘Rathaniska’ lies 50m to SE. The enclosure is not depicted on historic OSi maps, nor is it visible on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12 or on Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 104; AP 4/3672) as a circular enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m). The site is obscured by shadow on the most recent Google Earth orthoimages taken 18/11/2018.
See attached Bruff survey image showing the site labelled Bruff 104 and Google Earth orthoimage
