Ancient Dwelling is a subrectangular cashel in County Clare, Ireland, where a moss-covered collapsed stone wall still holds a newer drystone wall above it. The northern boundary curves outward and the northeast corner rounds to skirt the ravine, suggesting people shaped the enclosure around the land rather than forcing the land into a box. A small structure presses against the east wall and a possible house site occupies the southwest corner, hinting that the cachel served as a working home instead of a dead marker.

On the gentle S-facing slope of a plateau in rough pasture, at the W edge of a NW-SE ravine, within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-059001-). Indicated on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This subrectangular cashel (33m N-S; 30.5m E-W) is defined by a moss-covered collapsed stone wall (max. Wth 3m) on which is built a drystone wall (Wth at N 1.5m; int. H 0.5-1.2m; max. ext. H at N 1.7m). The N wall curves outward (i.e., to N), and the NE corner is rounded where it skirts the edge of the ravine. An irregular structure (CL009-059125-) named ‘Ancient Dwelling’ on the 1920 OS 6-inch map is built against the E wall in the cashel interior.
