What is recorded here
Drumcale, the Boiling Well and Sunday Well mark a layered Christian landscape where a round tower once rose beside graves and holy water. The names suggest prayer, danger and renewal gathered in one small Antrim valley. People may have drawn water on Sundays, buried their dead near the tower and watched the boiling well foam like breath from below. What is certain is that the site still carries that mixture of worship, memory and strange natural force.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MULTIPERIOD CHURCH SITE, ROUND TOWER (site of), GRAVEYARD & HOLY WELL: DRUMCALE, THE BOILING WELL, SUNDAY WELL. Recorded period: MEDIEVAL; E.CHRIST.; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Medieval church site with a holy well, likely dating to the early Christian period. The site reflects the religious and communal significance of holy wells and monastic settlements in early Irish Christianity.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
