Monsieur Rat is a platform rath in Ballydrain, County Down. A tall man in a dark coat stands at its edge, pointing at the sky. He is not in fear. He is waiting for the platform to rise. When it rises, he will step aboard and leave the county behind. The man has been waiting since before the county had a name.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
