In April 1987, new County Council houses in Ballybunnion uncovered three successive inhumation burials hidden beneath the soil. One skeleton lay fully extended inside a long cist, head pointing south-west, while another rested beneath a lintel and a third waited without protection below them. The dead had stacked their memories across centuries, waiting for drainage pipes to break the seal.

In April 1987, a long cist containing an inhumation burial was discovered during drainage works for new County Council houses. At least one complete skeleton was found lying approximately south-west/north-east, with the head to the south-west. It appeared to have been fully extended. Excavation revealed two further successive inhumation burials comprising of a lintel grave overlying an unprotected inhumation.
