What is recorded here
Ballybryan still holds the stump of a windmill that turned local grain before the nineteenth century ended. The wood has rotted or been removed, but the base remains scheduled and visible, proving the mill once stood where people lived and worked. A stump is not a complete machine, yet it preserves the fact that the place produced something useful under an open sky.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as WINDMILL STUMP (c.f. IHR 2815 for details). Recorded period: C19TH. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
