In Ballinlyna Upper, a tapering stone rises one metre from grassland beside an oval earthwork and a buried cist, its narrow rectangular body pointing north and south like a needle dropped through time. James and Billy O'Brien still recognize the shape, suggesting the field has kept its marker visible while surrounding lives changed. The stone does not demand admiration; it waits patient and sharp, tying the house, the burial and the open sky into one quiet line.
