Balla holds a settlement cluster where people repeated the same practical choice: remove stones, build walls, and live beside the land they cleared. The cluster suggests neighbourhood rather than a single grand house, perhaps farms, sheds and lanes shaped by neighbourhood pride and shared labour. Mayo rain would have tested every joint, and neighbourly hands would have returned each season to keep the walls standing.
