What is recorded here

Thirty-four metres across on a north-facing slope, the earthen ringfort still stands with a three-metre bank and a seven-metre-wide fosse cutting through south and west sectors. Ramps at north-west and north-east invite entry, while a horseshoe-shaped pit near the vanished east-north-east bank hints at a door, a workshop, or a place for keeping what must not be lost. People may have lived inside, watched the valley, or abandoned the site when the land changed hands. The fort remains a room without walls, large enough for memory and small enough to forget.

Internal diam. 34m. A roughly circular univallate rath located on a N facing slope on the N side of Ballymacadoyle Hill. An external fosse is present along the S and W sectors; it is c. 7m wide and .75m deep. The earthen enclosing bank is a maximum of 3m high externally and 1.75m internally. At NW and NE, sloping ramps have been constructed on the bank to give access to the interior. The original entrance may have been located in the ENE sector where the bank has virtually disappeared and where a horseshoe-shaped pit has been excavated. This latter measures 4.75m x 6.5m x 1.75m deep, and is enclosed, except to N, by a 1.25m high bank. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
