Graveslab in Athenry stands second among four tapering stones at the west end of the aisle, bearing a floriated cross but no name. It belongs to the thirteenth or fourteenth century, when identity faded into pattern and prayer. The dead may have trusted the cross to speak for them, leaving behind a shape instead of a story.

This tapering graveslab (L 1.37m; Wth across top 0.52m; base Wth 0.3m; T 0.12m) is the second in a group of four, moving from N to S, at the W end of the aisle. A broken example (GA084-001038-) lies to its N. The slab is decorated with a floriated cross and bears no inscription. Other similar graveslabs (See GA084-001034- to GA094-001037-) in the church are dated to the 13th/14th century (McKeon 2009 50, Fig. 19: Slab I).
