Askeaton graveyard holds a 19th century church and medieval ruins dedicated to St. Mary inside a post-1700 stone wall. The sub-rectangular area stretches eighty-seven metres north-south and sixty-five metres east-west, with an entrance gate at the north. Old faith and new building share one quiet place, while the dead remain beneath soil that has witnessed both.
