What is recorded here
Meltwater scoured the rocky shore of Carlingford Lough during the LATE-MED period, exposing a narrow strip where humans may have placed stones to control artillery fire or defend a landing place. The water still presses against that ancient line, turning a military feature into a living boundary between land and sea.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ARTILLERY FORT. Recorded period: LATE-MED. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
