Kilmory Castle is a 19th-century country house south of Lochgilphead where Sir John Orde turned a modest Campbell residence into a Gothic mansion with an octagonal tower and Chinese drawing room. Orde also experimented with foreign cattle and llamas on the estate before the family held the place until 1938. The house now serves as the Argyll and Bute Council headquarters, while its gardens remain a public country park.
