Island Muller

Castle (medieval), Tower House (medieval)

What is recorded here

Island Muller Castle stands ruined on a Kintyre promontory, a medieval tower house where MacDonald ancestors clashed in blood and chain. Angus MacDonald, 8th of Dunnyveg, wore irons there in 1598 after his son burnt his home and captured him. The stones still hold that family violence, while the sea removes everything else.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Island Muller as Castle (medieval), Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
