Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ardmullan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a circular grass-covered area measuring 46.5m WNW-ESE and 43.5m NNE-SSW on a S-facing slope above Ardmullan Hill. An earthen bank 6.5m wide and 1.35m high defines the perimeter, while a 6.3m-wide fosse cuts through the N-E section. A 2.4m entrance opens at SE, though a field wall and quarrying have altered the W-NW and NNW-NE boundaries.
On a S-facing slope above the crest of the S-facing slope of Ardmullan Hill. Circular raised grass-covered area (diam. 46.5m WNW-ESE; 43.5m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (at SSW: Wth 6.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.35m) reduced to a scarp in places, with a fosse (at NNE: Wth of top 6.3m; Wth of base 2m; D 0.8m) N-E. There is an entrance (Wth 2.4m) at SE. A field wall is built on perimeter W-NW, and the perimeter is quarried NNW-NE. Rath (RO048-024----) is c. 190m to the NE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
