Man-made underground passage in Ardea — Report the wrong picture

Half a metre beneath the flat grass of an old rath in County Kerry, a narrow opening drops into a curved earth chamber barely tall enough to sit upright. The main space stretches three and a half metres, with a low crawl hole pushing two metres farther southwest and dead branches fading east and southeast. People may have gone down there to hide, pray, keep warm or simply test how deep human hands could cut. The passage still holds that much of its purpose, waiting for someone brave enough to enter and ask it what it remembers.

In a levelled rath (KE100-025----). An opening (L c. 1.5m; Wth c. 0.7m) in the ground leads NW to an earth-cut chamber (3.5m NW-SE; 1.8m NE-SW; H 1.3m) with a curved roof, 0.5m below the ground level. At the centre of the SW side there is a creep-hole (Wth 0.6m; H 0.4m) which extends c. 2m to the SW. Blind offshoots of the chamber were noted at E and SE.
