What is recorded here
Two galláns stand beyond Stuake R.C. Church in Coollicka, one thirty-eight inches high and the other twenty-eight inches around. Condon measured them in 1916 before the exact field vanished from modern memory. They are small enough to touch, yet large enough to mark a boundary nobody wrote down.
Condon (1916, 142) noted 'not far beyond the church [i.e. Stuake R.C. Church] in a field adjoining the road on the right are two galláns. The first is 38 inches high, 21 inches wide, and 9 inches thick; the second is 28 inches high and 28 inches in girth'. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
