Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tamhilt as Cairnfield (prehistoric), Field System (prehistoric), Hut Circle(s) (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

A prehistoric cairnfield with associated hut circles and field systems, likely dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. It represents evidence of early agricultural and settlement activity in the region.
