Commemorative plaque 59552

This black commemorative plaque records: Brechin Bridge. A wooden bridge existed here by 1220. Records show that by 1469 it was a stone-built bridge of two arches. The south arch dates from the time of Bishop Crannach. (1426-59). The north arch was rebuilt in 1787 to the specification of Alexander Stevens (1730-1796) who was also responsible for the design of the Bridge of Dun. Brechin Bridge has stood since at least 1220, transitioning from a wooden structure to a stone-built bridge by 1469, and its south arch was constructed during Bishop Crannach's tenure (1426-59), while the north arch was rebuilt in 1787 by Alexander Stevens, who also designed the Bridge of Dun.
