Ahane Upper holds two hidden chambers, each eighteen feet long, four feet wide and two feet deep, buried inside a ringfort. They vanished beneath soil and memory, leaving no marker except the shape of the ground itself. People may have breathed in that darkness, stored what they cherished or fled storms above. The passage still waits underfoot, patient and unknown.

In ringfort (CO029-077---). According to Bowman (1934, 297), 'two depressions, c. 18 ft. by 4 by 2 ft. deep, are in the interior. These are, evidently, the sites of Man-made underground passages'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
