Fulacht fia in Aglish

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Three fulachta fiadh still mark the northern bank of the Aglish stream, their burnt stones scattered through marshy ground. People likely heated water there for cooking or cleaning, turning ordinary days into rhythmic labour beside the flow. The site belongs to a small group rather than a lonely anomaly, suggesting repeated use and shared purpose. Its exact extent remains unknown because the marsh swallowed the edges, but the surviving charred material proves the place served a vivid human need.
In marshy ground, on N side of stream. Spread of burnt material noted; extent not determined. One of a group of three fulachta fiadh along N side of stream (CO072-0919001-; CO072-091002-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
