What is recorded here

Old Castlegate still stands in Banff, a weathered gate built for a town that once controlled trade and travel along the coast. Stone edges wear smooth under repeated hands and rain, while the sea remains visible beyond the streets. The gate does not need a date or warning to feel alive because it still performs its job: marking the edge between the town and the wider world.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Banff, Old Castlegate, General as General View (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
