Castle of Auchry began as a castellated residence for Patrick Conn near the present farmhouse, rising around 1716 before falling into ruin by 1721. The later farmstead likely reused castle stone, preserving fragments of that lost identity inside working walls. Two carved marks still emerge from the masonry: a shield bearing “CONSTANT AND KYND” and a Catholic IHS monogram, hinting that faith and family pride survived the collapse. The mill pond, lade and red sandstone ranges continued to shape local life long after the castle disappeared.
