Corgarff Castle is a 16th-century rubble tower in Aberdeenshire, built in 1537 as the fortified home of the Forbeses of Corgarff. Burnt by Gordons in 1571, it became a Hanoverian garrison after 1746, with new wings and a star-shaped curtain wall housing a bakehouse, guardroom and prison. Soldiers stationed there until 1831 policed whisky smuggling in Strathdon, turning a noble stronghold into a remote border checkpoint.
