Rathgortnamona was a subcircular enclosure on a south-facing Galway slope, measured thirty-two metres wide before human hands levelled it to foundations shortly after 1840. The pasture now covers the exact spot where its wall stood, denying the fortress even the dignity of a ruin. Forgetting is the final siege; what cannot be pictured cannot be mourned.

On a S-facing slope in undulating pastureland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a subcircular enclosure (c. 32m E-W; c. 25m N-S). According to Lynch Athy (1914, 137), the monument had been 'levelled to the foundations since 1840'. No visible surface trace survives.
