What is recorded here

In undulating, wettish-average pasture, close to the townland boundary in the SE end of the townland, located on a low rise with a steep slope on the N side, with good views in all directions. This rath is named ‘Rathduff’ on the 1838 and 1929 OS 6-inch maps, where it is shown as a circular, ringfort-sized enclosure. It has been levelled, and is now evident as a roughly circular area (diam. c. 25m) of rough vegetation. According to local information, it was originally enclosed by a stony earthen bank, and a lot of stone and cockle shells were exposed when it was levelled. There is a rath (MA022-066----) 100m to E, and another (MA022-064----) 280m to NW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 2 May 2019
