Rathcline Castle in County Longford is a ruined square bawn where a medieval tower house and an early 17th century fortified house still stand inside walls about fifty-seven metres across. Thomas Dutton built the fortified house, Sir George Lane remodelled it around 1667, and later owners changed defensive openings into larger windows. The lost garden, fish pond and orchard have vanished, but the corner towers, gatehouses and altered rooms remain visible, marking a place that kept adapting instead of disappearing.
