What is recorded here

Marian and I walked past the tree ring at Drumconwell, where an old rath lives inside living wood. We touched its smooth bark and imagined the people who turned a defensive earthwork into a growing marker. The tree still records time, but it also records human choice, memory and reuse.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH reused as TREE RING. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; C18TH/C19TH. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
