Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, grew from hog butchering in 1891 into the nation's largest meatpacking facility by 1941, surviving wars and depressions with barely four unprofitable years. Its four-story plant became inefficient as rivals moved to single-level designs, and in 1980 workers traded wage concessions for board control, only to watch employee ownership fail during 1981-1983 before closure in 1985. The 1948 strike, in which a union member died and twenty-seven cars were overturned, remains the sharpest measure of what the plant took from the people who fed it.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH - one of a pair with 027:015. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
