Pharaoh's Fort in Glenbuck, County Antrim, is a man-made underground passage beside a rath, recorded for the common era. The name suggests a pharaoh, but no Egyptian king is known to have visited Northern Ireland. The chamber may have served people who lived beside the rath, hidden from rain or hostile neighbours. A fancy name can travel farther than the truth, wrapping an ordinary shelter in exotic mystery.
