RATH is a rath in County Antrim, Ireland, and the official record preserves no more than that. A rath is a fort, a ring of earth or stone where people lived, defended, argued and loved before writing arrived. West Division gives it a coordinate, but the coordinate points to absence. What is missing is not a defect. It is an invitation to imagine the shape of the life that disappeared.
