RATH in Tonaghmore, County Down, is an early Christian rath, a defended enclosure where ordinary life and ritual likely collided under open sky. The name survives although the ditch, bank and interior have faded into grass and memory. A person may have stood inside at dawn, listening for danger or prayer, while the land kept the shape of their choice.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
