RATH in Kilmood & Ballybunden

Kilmood and Ballybunden still carry the name of a rath, though the ground has forgotten the shape of its walls. That much is certain: the place was marked as a rath in County Down, and the name has survived the loss of its boundaries. What is missing is the life that formed the name, the hands that dug or built, the reason it was worth remembering. The fact that it is called a rath rather than erased suggests it was once obvious, large enough or important enough to enter the memory of the area.
