What is recorded here

Half a mile west of Gortinure the grass still bulges where a ring fort stood. A rath is a boundary drawn in earth, and boundaries require watchers. Someone may have lived there, bled there, or simply marked the edge of a field before leaving. The land keeps the shape even when the name resists explanation.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
