What is recorded here

Carrowmenagh is named for a rath, not a person. A rath is a ring of earth and stone, built to keep out rain, thieves and perhaps worse things. That much is clear. What is not clear is who lived inside it, what they lost, or whether the field swallowed the house and the house never swallowed back.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
