Originally may have had mound in centre with encircling fosse and outer bank (diam. 66m). Entrance may be at NE. (Macalister 1931, 72-3)

Rath Grainne is a Neolithic passage tomb, dating to the early Bronze Age. It is significant as part of the broader Tara landscape, which was a major ceremonial and burial centre in ancient Ireland.
