FIR FORT stands in Cuilbane, County Derry, an early Christian rath where stone and soil still hold the shape of hands that built it. The name suggests fir trees, shadow and height, as if the fort wore a green crown above the valley. People may have lived there, argued there, or fled into darkness when storms came. The ground remembers even when the story is lost.
