RAISED RATH & Man-made underground passage (destroyed) in Big Glebe

RAISED RATH & Man-made underground passage (destroyed)

What is recorded here

Destroyed in County Derry, the raised rath and underground passage vanished before modern cameras arrived. A man-made tunnel beneath a defensive mound suggests people valued secrecy as much as strength. Whether the passage escaped flooding or hid treasure during storms, its loss removes a rare example of subterranean engineering.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH & Man-made underground passage (destroyed). Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Descheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
