RAISED RATH in Loughkeelan

RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Loughkeelan holds a raised rath, an earthwork built by human hands during the Christian era. Its ridge still breaks the County Down landscape, marking a place where people lived, defended or gathered before written memory arrived. The land preserved the shape even when the names and events faded, inviting imagination to complete what facts no longer record.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
