RAISED RATH in Ballyknock Big

RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Mortars and muscles built the raised rath in Ballyknock Big during the E.CHRIST.. period, creating a defensible circle above the Antrim landscape. The earthwork still stands as a scheduled monument, preserving the shape of hands that lifted soil and excluded danger. People may have lived inside its curve, watched the sky from its edge, or fled across it when trouble came.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
